I totally agree with Bro Su's 'Militancy propaganda is pure Machiavellian' (Sept 7). SAB, however, is being very simplistic in cynically saying that Palestinians blow up and call themselves martyrs ('The unnerving justification for Islamic militancy', Sept 8).

The 'terrorist' Palestinian who blows himself up is a logical product of a people who have been crushed, dispossessed, tortured and killed in terrible numbers.

In a normal society, in a community whose people feel they are treated equally and with justice, we regard suicide as a tragic aberration, a death produced when the "balance of mind is disturbed". But what happens when the balance of a whole society's mind is disturbed?

If one walks through the wreckage of the Sabra and Chatila Palestinian refugee camps (one of the many refugee camps) in Beirut, the camps in which up to 2,000 civilians were massacred in 1982 by Israeli soldiers, one could only wonder at the stability of the survivors who lived there amid garbage, concrete huts and rats.

What is 'Islamic militancy'? What is a 'terrorist'?

It is the right and duty of an occupied people to struggle against injustice in order to gain their freedom. Be it in the name of their religion or belief. It is through religion one finds God-given strength to fight against evil.

SAB says Lashkar-e-Jabbar separatists in Kashmir pour acid on women if they do not cover themselves according to their strict Islamic dress code. Unless there is proof, I would regard this as another of those cheap, crude ways of denouncing Islam.

The propaganda against Islam is deep-rooted and well organised. They have been constantly attacked and mocked from the way their women is dressed to the way they live, eat, pray and marry.

I do not deny there are religious extremities, but let's not be quick to lump them all in one and justify murder against Muslims as fighting terrorism!
