I would like to respond to Tan KH's letter regarding absolution of Hitler ('By all means, absolve Hitler too', Sept 20). What he says is partly true but on the whole, a rather myopic and imprecise view on how the world politics and events revolve.

The United Nations does stand for many nations but in actual fact, the issues and agenda it pursues are very much the whims of the superpowers, namely the US and her allies. It is quite untrue to say UN was responsible for the sanctions on Iraq; the US and her trusted buddies were really behind the prolongation of the sanctions.

We, the little people, understand world events in a slightly different way. These foreign policies of the superpowers are pursued in accordance with their national interests, not the interests of the affected nations.

This hatred towards the US will be here to stay unless she begins to treat other nations justly.
