Nine of the 23 Kampung Buah Pala house owners met up with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for private discussions last week at his office.

Malaysiakini citizen journalists Chan Lilian and Jimmy Leow spoke to Lim and RSN Rayer, the Seri Delima assemblyperson, after the 8.30pm closed door meeting at Komtar on July 16.

"The discussions were friendly and we will hold another meeting next week," said Lim.

The meeting with Lim was over the ongoing Kampung Buah Pala village eviction issue.

Rayer also reiterated Lim's view that it was a very positive meeting.

"We had a heart to heart chat with the nine families. Another date has been set (for the next meeting), and we expect more families and residents to turn up. The CM will make arrangements for invitation letters to be sent," he said

Before the nine house owners met up with Lim, C Tharmaraj, assistant secretary of the Kampung Buah Pala Resident Association, said that the villagers were initially reluctant to meet the CM, as the letters were issued by the Department of Land and Mines and not by Lim.

"If it is signed (by Lim) and if he sincerely wants to see us, then there's no reason for us not to go," said Tharmaraj.

The idea of Lim meeting houseowners for discussions arose when Residents Association Chairman M. Sugumaran saw Lim on July 13.

The second round of the meeting Lim is scheduled for today evening.
