PAS would not be in a pickle today if president Abdul Hadi Awang had exerted his authority to enforce decisions made at the party's meetings and general assembly.

In making this sensational claim, a source close to the p NONE owerful Syura Council and to the party leadership claimed this was what pushed spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat ( right ) to propose an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) in a recent blog-posting.

The source cited two instances - which he described as the tip of the iceberg - where Hadi has not instituted decisive action.

At last year's muktamar (general assembly), delegates had called for full effort to be put into strengthening Pakatan Rakyat.

"Instead, certain parties continued to pursue their own agenda in direct contradiction of the muktamar's decision. This caused PAS to fall out with allies DAP and PKR," said the source.

Among the agendas was the call for a ban on alcohol in Selangor, which may have cost Pakatan the support of non-Muslims well beyond the state.

"The Syura Council convened last month to pass a resolution that Selangor commissioner Hasan Ali be ‘advised' (for making the demand)," the source said.

Noting that Hadi and his deputy Nasharuddin Mat Isa were not at the meeting, the source expressed doubt that the decision had been implemented.

Such laxity, he said, has enabled errant members to continue with their trespass.

While he expects tonight's special meeting to bring out spirited debate and a collective decision, he was pessimistic if this would resolve issues at hand.

However, PAS central information chief Idris Ahmad took a different view of the situation.

"Some pretend to be PAS members, but are secretly working for Umno," Idris (left) claimed.

These troublemakers, he said, are using Nik Aziz and the ‘unity government' issue to create the impression that PAS is on the brink of chaos.

This is further reinforced by Barisan Nasion leaders who issue controversial comments to create trouble for PAS, especially in relation to the ‘unity government' issue and the alleged rift between the ‘ulama' and ‘Erdogan' factions, he said.

Idris called for dialogue with the members and disciplinary action against errant members to stem this worrying development.
