Some 50 Gerakan Youth members today lambasted Sri Gading parliamentarian Mohamad Aziz for demanding that their party president, Koh Tsu Koon, quit from his cabinet post.

Mohamad, during the debate on the Supply Bill 2010 last week, said Koh, who is the minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of overseeing the Key Performance Index (KPI), had failed to perform his task well.

"How can you take care of KPI when you yourself didn't show good KPI? Your subordinates will have no confidence in you. So how can you be effective as the minister in charge?

"I sympathise with my friend from Batu Kawan (former MP Huan Cheng Guan), who was a good MP but his seat was taken by the (Gerakan) president (Koh) who contested (in the last general election), but he lost the whole state. And still (he) wants to take care of KPI," Mohamad had said.

Koh the ‘apple polisher'

Mohamad also accused Koh of being an "apple polisher" for turning up in Parliament only when Prime Minister Najib Razak was around.

He also dismissed the Gerakan leader for securing his minister's post through the "back door" via his appointment as a senator.

gerakan ndc 311009 wanita and youth leaders The Gerakan Youth leaders, who held the lightning protest that lasted about 15 minutes, were armed with banners and placards calling on Mohamad to apologise to Koh.

They also demanded BN to take stern action against Mohamad for fomenting trouble within the ruling coalition.

"Umno and Gerakan are both component parties in BN. Mohamad should not hurt the feelings of his political partners," said Oh. "We hope that the BN supreme council would initiate action against him."

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference after opening the annual conference of the Youth and Wanita wings, deputy president Chang Ko Youn advised party members not to concentrate too much on what Mohamad had said as there were other pressing issues to be addressed.

But it did not stop Wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe from voicing her support for the Youth wing's protest.

"What happens to one component party within BN will affect other parties too. As a large family, we must be careful of our actions. Don't quarrel openly," she said.
