MCA public complaints bureau is offering legal expertise to the family of the motorcylist who was killed in a shooting incident involving a senior lawyer in Kuala Lumpur last week.

"We have assigned two lawyers to monitor the situation," bureau chief Michael Chong told malaysiakini today.

Chong said that the party will also provide legal assistance to the family to observe any legal proceedings brought against the suspect.

It was reported that a prominent lawyer had allegedly shot dead despatch rider R Gobala Krishnan in self-defence after an argument over a traffic misunderstanding in Jalan Tempinis, Bangsar, last Friday evening.

Gobala was reported in the local dailies to have died on the spot due to a gunshot wound in his chest.

'Come forward with evidence'

The lawyer, who holds the honorific title "Datuk", was later detained to facilitate police investigations into the case when he went to lodge a report at the Pantai police station. He was later granted police bail.

The lawyer was reported to be a licenced firearms owner.

Meanwhile, Chong urged witnesses to come forward to give statements at the Brickfields police station or contact the MCA public complaints bureau.

Chong said while he has received phone calls from those claiming to have witnessed the shooting, these people must come forward to give evidence instead of merely making claims over the telephone.
