The authorities are once again zeroing in on Namewee, who created an uproar in 2007 with his infamous parody of the national anthem.

This time around, the 26-year-old singer, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, had ruffled feathers with a video clip slamming Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

NONE According to a Bernama report today, Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim said his staff would study the content and the lyrics of the clip before deciding on whether to take action.

The clip, entitled 'Namewee F*** TNB Malaysia' showcased his anger when the electricity supply to his house was cut and how he had created havoc in the TNB office in Muar.

Posted on YouTube, the popular clip generated mixed responses, with some supporting Namewee while the rest lambasting him for being rude.

As for his parody of the Negaraku, Namewee was let off the hook, despite widespread calls to charge him, after he made a public apology.

Intensify 1M'sia campaign

In another development, Rais said all departments and agencies under the ministry are requested to intensify their efforts to organise activities and briefings on the 1Malaysia concept at the

grassroots level.

He said based on the ministry's evaluation, the 1Malaysia concept, mooted by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, had been generally accepted by the people in the country.

"Initial reports revealed that the 1Malaysia policy has been accepted by many and the ministry will continue to organise briefings to reach the people from all walks of life," he added.

Rais said the information department should also strive to bring the information concerning the 1Malaysia policy to the people, including by using new approaches.

"For this, various communication methods and debates as well as the use of visual aid and interesting storytelling technique should become one of the vital elements for the briefings," he said.
