PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar today gave the Election Commission (EC) one day to remove “provocative” BN billboards which have sprung up around Hulu Selangor.

NONE Failure to do so will lead to PKR Youth taking matters in its own hands, Shamsul told journalists today after meeting with EC representatives and the returning officer, who assured him that they will act on this.

    

“We can tear them down ourselves but we do not want to provoke (BN) or cause tensions. But we will do this if the billboards are still there tomorrow morning,” Shamsul said.

Among the eight billboards deemed to be contentious is one erected near a mosque. It features a photo of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and the words pengkhianat negara (traitor to the nation) next to a BN logo.

"This is a new thing. In other by-elections there were also many banners like this but none bore the BN logo," added Shamsul who was accompanied by 10 PKR Youth members.

NONE He said that, in addition to the billboards, there are banners and posters that ‘slander’ Pakatan Rakyat candidate Zaid Ibrahim (left) and Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

Asked if PKR feels pressured by this, he said: "It's not about being pressured or not. This is a jahat (evil) way or campaigning."

He added that, if this is considered acceptable, then PKR too has a similar “collection of billboards” which it can put up.

In a related development, PKR supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin lodged a report about the billboards at the Kuala Kubu Baru police station this morning.
