Selangor owned Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) has hit out at Kapar MP S Manivakasagam over the latter's claims of corruption involving the company, labelling his allegations as "baseless, unfounded and unsubstantiated".

"Strongly refuting" and "vehemently condemning" what it says is the irresponsible statement of the Kapar MP, the company will institute legal action against the parliamentarian for defaming and tarnishing the company's good name, giving him 48 hours to apologise and withdraw the accusations.

This follows his discussion with Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim who has agreed to form a subcommittee under the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) and who urged him to go ahead with his police report.

In a statement emailed to the media today, the company added that in making the "scandalous allegations against the company and its senior management for cheap political mileage, Manikavasagam's litany of alleged irregularities is a blatant concoction of vicious lies and a malicious misappropriation of the truth."

The statement also called "the Kapar MP's act of desperation, a clear indication of misleading the public and crafted purely in pursuit of media attention profiteering."

‘KSSB welcomes investigation'

"We at KSSB welcome any investigation by the Selcat and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ("MACC"), said KSSB executive director Ramli Abd Majed, who was named in the Kapar MP's police report as one of three involved in the alleged corruption.

"We are willing to meet with the respective agencies, Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen to brief them on our operations and will extend our fullest cooperation to clear these baseless allegations and accusations," he added.

Ramli also said: "When we are cleared of all these baseless, unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations, we believe the Kapar MP should resign and that we be compensated for the alleged derogatory statement that has seriously tarnished our reputation and credibility.

"The company has been profitable and we have implemented transparent policies and guidelines to curb corrupt practices. The allegation of losses and mismanagement is totally an act to discredit the company."

Meanwhile, KSSB chairman,Abd Shukor Nagor, also named in the Kapar MP's police report, said that "the statements made by the Kapar MP is utterly disgusting and is thus a clear political and publicity motivated stunt, especially when I'm not even an Executive Director nor involved in the day-to-day operations of the company."
