Perak PKR is contemplating taking legal action against former party Ipoh Barat chief Fauzi Muda for allegedly slandering the party in the media.

Party state vice-chairperson Madzi Hasan - who is also a lawyer by profession - said today the party will first issue a warning letter to Fauzi to not further slander the name of the party, failing which legal action will be taken.

NONE Madzi ( left ) claimed that lately, Fauzi had been making a lot of false accusations to tarnish the name of the party and state party leaders had to put a stop to this.

"Fauzi seems to have media conferences practically every week to boost his image and run down our party. He is not independent as he claims to be. He has teamed up with three former PKR members who have now joined Umno and is now attacking our party," said Madzi.

The three who jumped ship are former Tanjung Malim PKR division chief Soraya Sulaiman, former Bagan Serai party member Roshanita Mohd Basir and her husband Saghazali Abdul Kadir.

 

In April, PKR state deputy chief Dr Lee Boon Chye had alleged that these three former PKR members had tried to entice state PKR members with financial gain to resign and cross over to Umno prior to the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election.

Fauzi had resigned from PKR on May 11 which coincided with Umno’s anniversary celebrations. He said that he was going to form an NGO to act to expose PKR’s alleged wrongdoings in the state.

Prepared to answer

Madzi also denied Fauzi’s allegations that many PKR divisions in the state had failed to get the quorum of 30 members to conduct their AGMs this year.

"Only Fauzi did not get a quorum for his division’s AGM before he quit the party. Also, only Fauzi and his wife resigned from the Ipoh Barat division and the remaining 23 elected party members are still there," explained Madzi.

"In fact the division is now functioning under acting division chief Francis Sebastian who has selected the office bearers," he pointed out.

The party vice-chairperson also said that his party is prepared to answer any enquiries from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) regarding Fauzi’s complaint made on Friday.

Madzi also added that PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will attend a function to honour veteran members at the PKR state headquarters on June 13 at 9pm.

He also called on Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir to follow the footsteps of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in banning legalised sports betting in the Silver State.
