Tears have yet to dry for those nearest and dearest to slain political aide Teoh Beng Hock, who was found dead exactly a year and one day ago after being interrogated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

teoh beng hock grave nirvana memorial park 170710 12 The mother of Teoh’s sweetheart Soh Cher Wei was seen sobbing over the loss of the young man who was to be her son-in-law.

But the rest of the family members put on a brave face at the memorial service held in the Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih, where Teoh’s final resting place is.

About 150 people were present at the two-and-a-half hour ceremony, many of whom there since 8am.

Teoh’s four-and-a-half-month-old son, Er Jia, also made his first public appearance, most of the time cradled by Soh.

teoh beng hock grave nirvana memorial park 170710 05 While Soh allowed the press photographer to take photos of Teoh junior with his back facing the cameras, the Johor-based schoolteacher said that life now revolves around taking care of the little one.

“I hope that he will grow up to live like a normal person, away from the public eye. Normal is good,” said Lee Lan with a faint smile, in explaining why the family decided to shield the baby from the cameras.

Tragic death

Teoh's former colleague Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching gave a brief speech, calling for justice over his tragic death.

teoh beng hock grave nirvana memorial park 170710 02 Party leader Lim Kit Siang, at a press conference, reiterated his calls for a royal commission to investigate the matter, saying that the current inquest is unable to uncover the whole truth.

The 30-year-old aide to Selangor exco Ean Yong Hian Wah was found dead on the fifth floor landing of Plaza Masalam - where the state MACC headquarters is situated - on the morning of July 16 last year after he had spent the entire night under interrogation.

teoh beng hock grave nirvana memorial park 170710 06 Theories abound as to how he may have died and the current inquest has heard conflicting evidence with MACC’s pathologist saying that it could be suicide.

Meanwhile, a pathologist representing the Selangor government had said that there was an 80 percent probability that he was murdered.
