Former PKR youth chief turned Umno member Ezam Mohd Nor is chest-thumping again, calling for the removal of Anwar Ibrahim as the state’s economic advisor as he is a “traitor” and a “tool of the Jews”, this time at the ‘Save Selangor’ installment in Port Klang last night.

ezam save selangor In his speech, Ezam ( right ) accused his former boss of being "in cahoots with the Jews" for apologising to the Jews after Malaysians showed unanimous condemnation of Israel’s attack on the aid flotilla to Gaza in June.

"In Malaysia, he portrayed himself fiercely against the Jews. Outside, however, he bowed to them,” said Ezam, referring to Anwar’s statements in the US that was reported by Washington Post, which Ezam labeled an “influential Jewish newspaper”.

Approximately 500 people attended the ceramah, held at a football field near the Umno operations room in Sri Pendamar, Port Klang.  

Also in attendance were Klang Umno chief Abdul Latiff Mazlinoor, Umno Youth exco Lokman Adam and BN component party leaders.

'Not a cent or two million'

Ezam then claimed Anwar had helped his friend Paul Wolfowitz, who is said to have been embroiled in a scandal with a female employee in the World Bank.

save selangor crowd He accused Anwar of writing a letter, when he was heading the Foundation of the Future, certifying that the woman worked for him rather than Wolfowitz.

"This is Anwar, the human, the traitor. Where is our dignity as the people of Selangor?" said Ezam.

He summed up calling on the people of Selangor to rise and attack Anwar.     

"If we have dignity, we must rise to defend our honour and remove Anwar Ibrahim from Selangor," he said, vowing to continue his crusade against opposition leader.

In his speech, Ezam also denied allegations that he joined Umno because" rewards " but that he left PKR “out of principle”.

"I'm not a political prostitute. People say I was paid  to make the decision (to join Umno). But it was not because of money. I did not receive a cent or two million. None," he said.

He ended his speech calling on the people to defend Selangor’s wealth from being “gutted” by “people who are unprincipled, gluttonous and who are politically ambitious.”

"BN has a record of building this country. We must defend what the previous leaders have built, not Pakatan Rakyat,” he said.

'We were wrong'

At the ceramah, Lokman took his turn to admit that Umno’s loss in the last general election was a result of the people’s criticism of the party.

"If people have spoken, then some of us have wronged. After the 2004 election, we neglected and failed to act, we may have offended the rakyat. People did not like what we have done," he said.

"But we are not saying that people ungrateful. Najib has instructed us to conduct a post-mortem, review our mistakes," he said.

Meanwhile Mazlinoor spoke about how they would carry on with their efforts to call on PKR leaders to come out in public to explain their “treachery and abuses”.

He also explained that Selangor Umno deputy chairman Noh Omar was unable to be present because he was at an “emergency meeting” with Najib, who is also Selangor Umno liaison committee chairperson.

pamplet save selangor At the end of the ceramah, Malaysiakini observed party officials circulating two-page flyers satirising the sand mining issue in the state.

“Digging up Selangor till it’s full of holes,” read one ( top photo ), playing on the acronym "KSSB" for the state sand mining company, while the other screamed, “Sand robbed in Dengkil.”

The ceramah is one of 19 such events that kicked off yesterday at Shah Alam, as Umno’s 'first phase' offensive to retake Selangor by hook or by crook, since it lost the state to Pakatan Rakyat in the last general election.
