The Malay section editor for news portal Merdeka Review , Lim Hong Siang , had his statement recorded at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.

This is in relation to an allegation made by Malay rights NGO Perkasa claiming that MCA secretary-general Chai Kim Seng had issued a seditious statement on a website on July 1.

On July 8, Perkasa deputy chairperson Abdul Rahman Abu Bakar said that Chai's statement was seditious and that it threatened the safety of Perkasa members and its supporters.

NONE In the statement, Chai stated that "MCA Youth will retaliate and will do anything to defend the dignity of the MCA".

Lim ( right in photo ), who was accompanied by lawyer Ngeow Chow Ying ( left ), spent about an hour giving evidence to investigating officer Muhamad Suhaimi.

Ngeow said that his client was there as a witness to assist in the investigation.

Lim said that in his statement to the police, he had explained that there were two versions of Chai's statement; one from the email and the other from the attachment with the email, and the usage of " celaka ".

"In the attachment from MCA Youth the phrase " memang celaka betul " is there but in the email itself, the words were not used," he said.

According to Lim, the statement in the email said "national security will be jeopardised if no action is taken against this organisation".

Lim said that he had made the translation based on the e-mail attachment.

"I had not noticed (that there were differences between the email and the attachment). Normally, a press release on the email and attachment are the same. It so happened that I had selected the attachment," he explained.
