DAP has urged the Perak government to pass an law to create a minimum statutory period of four days for state legislative assembly sittings.

At a press conference yesterday, Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming said this was to ensure that the assembly’s agenda is properly debated, as opposed one-day sittings on Tuesday and Oct 28 last year.

The two sittings saw budget bills being passed with little time being allocated for debates.

Concurring, ousted Perak state assembly speaker Sivakumar said BN appeared to be afraid of the points that would have been raised by the opposition.

“Can the speaker name me any other state in Malaysia that has a one-day assembly sitting?” he asked.

Sivakumar added that speaker R Ganesan had unfairly limited the speaking time for Opposition Leader Nizar Jamaluddin.

He said that during Pakatan Rakyat’s rule, BN Opposition Leader Mohd Tajol Rosli Mohd Ghazali was given two-hours of speaking time.

“Why limit 30-minutes to Nizar?” he asked.

Sivakumar also blasted Ganesan for his clumsily stating that Nizar was stripped of his state seat, only to correct himself later to announce that he was being given the boot for a day only.
