), who is the former chairperson of Selangor PKR, said he had hoped the Kuala Selangor division would nominate Wan Azizah as president and did not know its nomination would go instead to Anwar Ibarhim.
“When the possibility of a contest between Wan Azizah and I, I felt Azizah was more qualified in terms of experience,” said Khalid.
He said further that his decision to decline the nomination from the Kuala Selangor division did not mean he rejects completely the possibility of running for deputy president.
“I just wanted to show that, while it is good that the party (division) has named Wan Azizah, it does not stop me from contesting the post of deputy president if I wanted to. I’ve gotten more than two nominations,” Khalid added.
Speaking to a press conference in Kuala Selangor, Khalid said he will decide on Oct 5 whether he will bid for the post or not.
Khalid has so far gotten four nominations, far behind party vice-president Mohd Azmin Ali (98), Zaid Ibrahim (37), Mustaffa Kamil Ayub (17) and Tian Chua (5).
In the latest tally, about 1,400 ballots were cast in the Kuala Selangor division elections. The division has 6,218 eligible voters.
At the division level, Khalid faces off for the division chair against Selangor PKR Youth information chief Mazli Saring.
