The younger generation of Malaysia must be nurtured in school with the original and intended status of the federal constitution to cultivate the 1Malaysia society.

In making the call, DAP national assistant treasurer Nga Kor Ming said, “It is time that the supreme law of the land, the federal constitution, be incorporated into Malaysia schools' syllabus.”

“It is imperative and most timely that this sacred legal covenant be upheld in its original and intended status.

“The federal constitution is a living document and all Malaysians should be given access to understand and practice the spirit enshrined in this most important legal document which guarantees our fundamental liberties and spells out the rights of citizens of the nation,” pointed out the state party secretary.

“Failure to do so will cause the five Rukun Negara - national principles - and the ‘rule of law’ to remain as window dressing and it will not achieve what it was intended when it was drafted 54 years ago,” the Taiping MP reasoned in a media statement.

NONE Enriching the young Malaysians with knowledge of the federal constitution will enable them to fight for their rights as citizens of the country and also allow them to understand their fundamental standing in the Malaysian society, Nga ( right ) argued .

He said that many politicians in the Malaysian political arena are misinterpreting the federal constitution for their own political mileage and thus confusing the public in general.

He claimed that most Malaysians do not have basic knowledge of the constitution and are lost emotionally without understanding its core when certain politicians whip up their emotions on such issues.

National debt breaks RM400 bil benchmark

On another issue, Nga claimed that this is the first time that our national debt had broken the RM400 billion benchmark and stands at RM408.2 billion after the announcement of the 2011 budget by Premier Najib Abdul Razak on Friday.

“In other words, the 27 millions Malaysians will be forced to shoulder RM15,118 debt each, no thanks to the impotent financial management by the BN regime,” warned the DAP leader.

In addition, the RM5 billion ‘Warisan Merdeka’ mega-tower project will most likely serve as the latest white elephant government project which only enrich the Umno cronies at the expense of the general public, he said.

The imposition of the 6% service tax, an increase from 5% will add additional burden to the lower income group, Nga added.

“Before the government transforms our economy, the people have been transformed to bear the extra burden with no extra benefit,” he argued.

Pro-active action is needed to save the country’s economy before it is too late, he added.

On Najib’s speech at the MCA convention calling for MCA to be less communal, Nga reasoned that a leopard cannot change its spots, and it is just like the pot calling the kettle black.

He criticised Najib for wearing two political hats when addressing the different races, saying one thing to the Malay community to please them and another to the non-Malays to portray the 1Malaysia concept.

Nga lashed out at Najib to walk the talk on his so-called 1Malaysia policy instead of confusing the people with his  two-hat political drama.

“If Umno really means business it should first open up its membership to the non-Malays and abolish racially discriminatory policies.”

“I agree with Najib that the Chinese should not be called ‘kaum pendatang’ and neither do I like to be  classified as non-bumiputra,” he said.

Malaysia is our home and all should be treated equally before the law as enshrined  in the federal constitution, he pointed out.
