Former DAP state deputy chief M Kulasegaran has declined an offer by the new state party leadership to take up the role of state vice-chairperson.

"After having weighed all opinions and taking into consideration the present political development and circumstances within Perak DAP, I have decided to decline the cooption offer from the state committee," said Kulasegaran in a media statement.

"I pledge to play my active and continued role in both state and national politics to help achieve the Pakatan Rakyat's twin electoral objectives - to recapture Perak state power and to March towards Putrajaya," he said.

All but one of Kulasegaran's ( right ) team members were routed at the Perak DAP polls on Sunday by the team led by state DAP chairperson Ngeh Koo Ham.

Kulasegaran narrowly missed a spot on the 15-member committee elected that day by coming in at number 17 and was replaced by his former political disciple V Sivakumar, now loyal to Ngeh.

Following this, Ngeh tried to offer the olive branch by coopting Kulasegaran, and several others, into the committee and naming him vice-chairperson.

Some of Kulasegaran's supporters saw the offer as an insult when a much higher one was handed to Sivakumar, who is considered a junior party leader.

Meanwhile, A Sivanesan is expected to officially announce his acceptance of the vice-chairperson post tomorrow.

Like Kulasegaran, Sivanesan fared badly in the polls but was later coopted into the state committee.

"He has taken up the position in the interest of party unity, in view of the preparations needed for the next general elections which is expected to be called soon," said a source close to Sivanesan.
