The Shah Alam Sessions Court has acquitted Wong Chuan How, aide to Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu, on a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM5,000.

Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove its case.

“After studying the statements from the witnesses and submissions from both parties, the prosecution has failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt,” he said.

After the judgment was read out, Wong’s family members and supporters rose to congratulate him. Following this, Liu entered the court room and gave Wong warm hug. 

NONE "I am satisfied with the judgment. I have no bad intentions. I had no intention to cheat anyone," a relieved Wong told reporters later. 

He was charged with CBT involving a RM5,000 cheque meant for the cost of holding a meeting for residents' associations and members of the Sungai Pelek village development and security committee at the Sepang district office on Feb 19 last year. 

According to the charge sheet, the meeting did not take place. 

On April 21, Azhaniz Teh had acquitted Wong because the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.

MACC appealed

Wong eventually had to enter his defence after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had successfully sought an appeal against the acquittal from the High Court on Oct 21.

The Sessions Court had previously acquitted Wong on two other charges brought by the MACC. The High Court refused the MACC's appeal on these charges. 

On April 2, judge Azhaniz Teh acquitted Wong on a charge of making false claims amounting to RM2,500.

Wong was accused of making the claims, allegedly for mini-flags meant for cars, which were never delivered. 

On April 26, judge Mat Ghani Abdullah had acquitted Wong on another charge of CBT without calling for his defence. 

In this case, Wong had been accused of misusing RM2,500 meant for a gotong-royong project and meet-the-people session in Kampung Baru Lanjut in Sungai Pelek, Sepang, in 2008. 

Previously, Wong sustained injuries after MACC officers tried to arrest him at the Sungai Pelek DAP service centre.

Wong refused arrest because Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had issued an instruction that all investigations by federal authorities must take place in state government premises. 

The order was issued following the mysterious death of Teoh Beng Hock, aide to another Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, after he was held overnight at the Selangor MACC headquarters.
