The High Court in Kuching has ordered Padungan state assemblyperson Dominique Ng Kim Ho to pay RM100,000 to a senior lawyer, Chong Siew Chiang, for slandering him.

dominique ng interview 010606 gesturing Ng ( right ), an advisor to PKR, is said to have made slanderous remarks about Chong, a vice-chairperson of the Sarawak DAP, during the 2008 parliamentary election.

Ng was campaigning at a public rally for See Chee How, the PKR candidate for the Stampin seat, when he made the allegedly slanderous remarks.

United Daily News article quoted Ng in an article in its March 2, 2008 issue.

Chong took offence at the words and sued both for slander and libel.

He told reporters that he had to protect his reputation, and that politicians should not be allowed to get away with defaming people.

Ng, meanwhile, said he would consider appealing the decision after getting the details of the judgment on Monday.

Newspaper  to pay RM50,000

Judicial commissioner Ravinthran N Paramaguru, who delivered his judgment in his chambers, found Ng and United Borneo Press liable.

United Borneo Press Sdn Bhd, the publisher of Chinese language newspaper United Daily News , was ordered to pay Chong RM50,000 for libel.

The Stampin parliamentary seat was won by BN's Yong Khoon Seng.
