An upset Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) national vice-president John Tenewi Nuek today rubbished news reports that he is on the verge of leaving PKR to join the Sarawak National Party (Snap).

"The report is a total fabrication," he said when asked about a news portal report originating from Sabah that he and other Bidayuh leaders in PKR were contemplating joining Snap.

The report said Bidayuh leaders in PKR had a secret meeting to discuss their resignation from PKR.

It also said they were not happy with the central PKR leadership for sidestepping issues on Sarawak and that they were contemplating continuing their political struggles with Snap.

Rejecting the report, Tenewi said: "This is the first time that I am hearing of any secret meeting among Bidayuh leaders to move to Snap. There was no such a meeting."

Tenewi has been tipped to contest in Opar, facing incumbent Ranum Mina of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), in the coming state election.

SUPP has confirmed that Ranum will be defend Opar on the BN ticket.

'Secret meeting will be held on Monday'

A former PKR leader, who did not want to be named, said "something big will happen in Sarawak" in a couple of days, after Bidayuh leaders from PKR, Snap and BN "hold a secret meeting on Monday night".

The leader said those involved wanted to discuss "the correct direction" for the people of the state to take.

"We want to assess our presence in the current political scenario in Malaysia in general, and Sarawak in particular," said the former leader, who is now in Peninsular Malaysia meeting politicians from "both the political divide".

The former leader said the community could not rely on the present state leadership, which he said was "too factional".

Meanwhile, the state PKR Wanita has denied that some of its members have quit the party to join Snap.

"As far as I am concerned, I have not heard or received any letter of resignation from any of our members," its leader Norhanim Moksen said.

"At this moment, we have not received any resignation from our members," she told a press conference today.
