An illiterate farmer, fed up of waiting for almost a year for justice for his daughter, is asking the police what is happening to her report lodged against a senior police officer, for allegedly abusing and raping her in Kapit some years ago.

She first lodged a report with the Kapit police on May 3 last year, and a second report with the Sibu police five days later.

The 49 year old farmer has also lodged a report with the Sibu police.

"As both my daughter and I are illiterate, we did not know what to do. Luckily for us, a man who knows my daughter, helped us," said the father, whose name cannot be revealed to conceal the identity of his daughter.

Since lodging the reports, she and her family are in the dark on the status of the police investigations.

Her lawyer, Voon Shiak Nie, has repeatedly called the police to check on its status, only to receive the stock reply, that the police were still investigating.

The police officer, with the rank of assistant superintendent, was attached to the Kapit police before he was transferred to Kuching. He is believed to be attached to the Special Branch.

The lawyer also wrote a letter to the Attorney-General's Chambers and the police regarding the case.

"The answer is the same - the case is still under investigation," the victim's father told reporters at the lawyer's office in Kuching.

As a result of the repeated rapes, the woman, who worked as a maid for the policeman's family, gave birth to a daughter in January last year.

The man said he and her daughter had resorted to lodging the report with the Sibu police as he was not happy with the Kapit police.

The man said he had lodged a report in Kapit on May 2 last year, but the content was different from what he had stated.

He alleged the report stated that he wanted RM100,000 compensation from the policeman and the return of the baby. "The truth is that my daughter is seeking justice for the cruelty and abuse committed against her," he said.

Employed as a maid

The man said the policeman's wife and her mother had gone to his longhouse at Rumah Nisson Bunyau, Sungai Paku, Mujong, in Kapit sometime in 2004.

They persuaded him to let his daughter, the second eldest among his nine children, to work as a maid with the policeman's family. "They promised they would take care of her."

The first rape allegedly took place in the police quarters, soon after she was employed as the maid.

She then claimed the policeman threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The woman was also said to have been forced to watch a pornographic video before she was raped.

It was also alleged that the policeman would also show her a clip of him and his wife having sex, and that he would ask her to follow the same acts.

The woman also claimed that she was not allowed to go home to her longhouse in the course of her employment.

After discovering that she was pregnant, the policeman allegedly asked a doctor to conduct an abortion on her, but he refused as the woman was five months pregnant.

The woman was also asked to stay in a house, belonging to the policeman's parents, at Sibu Jaya, about 40km from Sibu town, until she gave birth through a Caesarean at a medical specialist centre there.

Abdominal pains

The man said he did not know that her daughter had given birth until she complained of having abdominal pains in early May last year.

He said she showed to him the scars on her abdomen, indicating that she had undergone a Caesarean.

"She told me that she had given birth to a baby girl in January last year. She said the baby was the result of rape by the policeman.

"Soon after the baby was born, she was taken away and she has not seen the baby since."

The man claimed that her daughter was made a sex slave by the policeman.

"She was also forced to sign a certificate stating that she had married someone she did not even know," he said.

The man said the marriage certificate was to cover the rape committed by the policeman.

"Eventually, the policeman's father took pity of my daughter and then sent her to the express boat wharf where she boarded a boat to Kapit," the man said.

Meanwhile, Voon said the victim will be filing a civil suit against the policeman and other relevant parties for the alleged abuse and rape committed by the policeman.

"The legal papers are ready, we are still waiting to confirm certain facts first before filing the suit," she said.
