MCA today moved ahead to restrict the tenure of the head of its president, although this may take effect only from 2005 when the next party election is due.

MCA secretary-general Ting Chew Peh said the presidential council this morning discussed amending the constitution and agreed that the new rule should apply to a president elected only by the general assembly and having served at least two years of the three-year term.
