Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran is mulling the possibility of tabling a motion to censure Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim over their statements on an alleged 'Christian conspiracy'.

maika holding shareholders meeting 300807 kulasegaran Kulasegaran ( right ) said the move was necessarily if the two do not apologise for apparently taking at face value an Utusan Malaysia report of a conspiracy to make Christianity the official religion of the country and install a Christian as prime minister.

He argued that both ministers should have instead ordered investigations by the government agencies that they controlled, the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

"These are two government leaders in charge of ministries that should immediately investigate the malicious and baseless report.

"Yet, instead of giving immediate orders to investigate the report and calling for calm among the people, they have chosen to play politics.

"Being seasoned politicians, they know too well how dangerous the Utusan report is as it can incite resentment and threaten religious harmony and racial peace in the country," Kulasegaran said in a statement today.

Even Penang's Umno duo disbelieve Utusan

Kulasegaran said two Penang state assemblypersons had stated that they do not believe the said Utusan report.

The duo, Hilmy Yahya (Teluk Bahang) and Muhammad Farid Saad (Pulau Betong), are both from Umno, the party which owns Utusan .

"(This comes as a surprise) because it not easy for any Umno politician to say he (or she) disbelieves the Utusan report for two reasons.

"Firstly, the top Umno leadership has not categorically and immediately distanced itself from the report.

"Secondly, a couple of government leaders have chosen to believe the report without having it investigated and verified first," said Kulasegaran.

The duo made known their disbelief of the Utusan report during the Penang state assembly sitting yesterday, during the debate on a motion to bar Utusan from covering future sittings.

The front-page Utusan report on May 7 relied solely on two unverified pro-Umno blog report s claiming that there was a recent meeting of pastors to discuss the plot and DAP was part of it.

Christian bodies and the DAP have denied the allegation.

However, the report has resulted in other debates on whether a non-Muslim can become prime minister or whether, if at all, Malaysia has an "official" religion.
