Song Min Young, 24, was flown back to South Korea last night, according to her local sponsor, the National Institute of Electoral Integrity (NIEI).
A spokesperson for the group said Song had arrived in Seoul this morning and will return to Gwangju where she resides.
Song, 24, a Chonnam National University student, was undertaking an internship programme with NIEI, a local elections monitoring outfit.
She was first detained while observing Parti Sosialis Malaysia's (PSM) roadshow in Johor last Saturday as part of her research for NIEI.
Duo released but rearrested
Also detained during the roadshow was Filipino political activist Romeo Castillo, 56, who was a PSM guest in Malaysia for one month.
Both Song and Castillo (

) were released on the same day after their statements were recorded.
But on Monday, Song was rearrested in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Castillo was taken on Thursday afternoon while trying to board a plane back to Manila.
Following this, the duo were alleged to be 'foreign agents' in a front-page report by Utusan Malaysia .
Castillo is now being held at the Sepang district police headquarters. According to PSM, he is still in detention.
