PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali today claimed that there is a faction within Umno plotting the ouster of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak from his post.

The movement, he claimed, sought to achieve their aim before the 13th general election takes place.

"Najib and (his wife) Rosmah (Mansor) are seen as a liability to the BN, as at this time, they are impacting negatively on (BN’s chances) in the coming polls," Mustafa (right) told a press conference at PAS headquarters this morning.

The “movement” to ouster Najib is a “strong” one, he added. Mustafa declined, however, to disclose details about the purported movement.

“Wait another week or two, things will become clearer.”

He alleged that senior leaders were involved in the said movement.

When asked whether Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin was involved, Mustafa said: "I don’t know. At this time, I do not want to say.”

'Ku Li rumours a distraction'

His remarks come on the heels of allegations in the mainstream media that implicated PAS leaders in an alleged move to appoint Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, better known as Ku Li, to replace Anwar Ibrahim as Pakatan Rakyat leader.

Mustafa dismissed those claims as a red herring aimed at diverting attention from the anti-Najib movement within Umno.

The mainstream media report also purported that PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat had secretly met with Razaleigh over the matter, something which Mustafa also denied.

Turning the tables on Umno, Mustafa then went on to suggest that the shoe may actually be on the other foot, as Ku Li is actually being approached to replace Najib ( left in photo ) instead of Anwar.

“Umno may want to choose Ku Li to be PM. That is a possibility as he is an Umno MP,” sniped Mustafa.

Adding to his theories with regard to the Kelantan prince, he added that any Umno parliamentarian can be PM if the Agong so approves.

In the same vein, he said that anyone can also be Pakatan Rakyat chief, with the caveat the person is a senior Pakatan leader, something which Ku Li is obviously not.

Mustafa also denied reports that claimed SMSes were sent to PAS supporters promising them RM100 and meals during their participation in the Bersih 2.0 electoral reform rally.

“No, outr members came with their commitment, not with any expectations.

“Maybe they did hope to be tear-gassed, showered with chemical-laced water or spend the night in jail,” he joked.
