An NGO today lodged an official complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), urging for a probe into a possible syndicate within the government to register dubious voters.

The group Jingga 13 said it has "suspicions" of such a syndicate being managed by institutions responsible for the country's electoral rolls, all for the benefit of "a certain party" come the next general elections.

Jingga 13 coordinator Fariz Musa said on their own initiative, they managed to find at least 16 cases where voters listed on the rolls by the Election Commission (EC) are not found on the national registration department's online system.

"It is strange how the electoral rolls would have names with new identity card numbers and complete data, but when checked with the NRD system, the IC number is listed as ' Tiada Permohonan/Nombor Yang Dimasukkan Tidak Sah ' (No application/Invalid number)," he told reporters after filing their complaint.

To support their claim, Fariz said they provided the MACC with printouts of the 16 dubious names listed on the electoral rolls and also showed it to the press.

Lacking proof?

Fariz claimed that the list proves there are active efforts to register fake voters and fake MyKad numbers, and demanded for serious action to protect the nation's security and sovereignty and safeguard democratic practices.

"Jingga 13 will continue to expose false identities. We urge for a special probe to be launched in making sure democracy in our country is transparent, fair and professional.

"It would be a tragedy if the MACC does not taker any action, when the evidence and facts are quite clear," Fariz said.

From the list, Fariz explained that some of the dubious voters had the same old identity card numbers, but more than one MyKad numbers which list them as voters in different constituencies.

Upon testing on the Election Commission’s website, Malaysiakini was unable to verify this allegations as everyone on the list had only one valid MyKad number.

Fariz conceded that this was in fact the case but insists that his team managed to detect the 16 with multiple MyKad numbers but the same old identity card number.

Fariz is the supreme council member of PKR.
