A high level Pakatan Rakyat meeting on Monday has affirmed that the implementation of hudud law is not part of the coalition’s policy.

Revealing this today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the meeting had discussed PAS’ intention to implement hudud law during the meeting on Monday evening at the DAP headquarters.

During the meeting, the coalition’s three documents Common Policy Framework in 2009, Buku Jingga in 2010 and September 28 joint statement does not include the implementation of hudud law in the coalition’s agenda for the forthcoming general election.

“Any change of policy can only be reached by common consensus with the agreement of all the three parties,” said Guan Eng in a statement today.

Guan Eng is believed to be responding to speculative reports on the meeting which have surfaced yesterday.

He said that the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment 1993 was also discussed at the meeting.

“At the meeting, DAP stressed the party’s consistent stand in not agreeing with the hudud law and explained that the hudud law is not in line with the Federal Constitution.

During the meeting, DAP was represented by Guan Eng, central committee member Lim Kit Siang and party chairperson Karpal Singh.

PAS was represented by deputy president Mohamad Sabu, secretary-general Mustafa Ali and some Kelantan state cabinet members, while PKR was represented by its de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, deputy president Azmin Ali and its Perak chairperson Mohd Nur Manuty.

DAP has been underfire from traditional rivals MCA who are accusing the former of consorting with PAS which ultimately seeks to establish an Islamic state.

Soon after taking over Kelantan in 1990 and Terengganu in 1999, the party had passed laws which allows for the implementation of hudud law, but it has yet to be enforced. 

In Terengganu, the law has yet to be repealed by BN which has ruled the state since 2004.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has explicitly stated that his administration would not be implementing hudud law.
