Police today quizzed Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin over her claims that illegal immigrants were being turned into voters after swearing allegiance to BN and Umno.

She was questioned by two police officers for an hour this morning at Premier Hotel, Klang.

Zuraida is being investigated for criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both.

When contacted, Zuraida said the investigation was ongoing and she would reserve her comments.

"They asked where did I get the information from and if I have any witnesses, I don't think I can share anymore than that.

"If there is anything, we can take this to court," she said.

NONE Zuraida said her operatives had penetrated a syndicate operating under the government's 6P amnesty and biometric registration program for illegal immigrants.

She claims illegal immigrants were being made to take an oath of allegiance and showed copies of the alleged oath during a press conference on Aug 16.

The investigation comes after the Home Ministry had in August lodged a police report against Zuraida after the allegation was made.

Asked about the “more concrete” evidence she had promised to reveal over the allegation, Zuraida said she was still looking for more evidence.

“I have a few (video) recordings but they not really clear, I’m still trying get other recordings,” she said.

According to her aide Fareez Kamal Intidzam, some six police officers were at the hotel.

“Actually we are having a course for our Wanita PKR which is why they sent extra policemen,” he said when contacted.

NONE Meanwhile, Malaysiakini journalist Abdul Rahim Sabri was also questioned by police over the same matter yesterday.

He was questioned for almost two hours over two stories that carried Zuraida’s allegation.

Police will question another Malaysiakini journalist Salhan K Ahmad on Monday morning.
