The Health Ministry will organise a nationwide series of roadshows on its 1Care national health insurance scheme.

In a series of tweets today, Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said that the public will have a chance to dialogue with health ministry officials on the matter.

"The objective is to engage the public and stakeholders on how to upgrade our nation's healthcare system towards 2020," said Liow.

He said that details on the roadshow would be unveiled soon.

"I hope we will be able to meet as many people as possible," he said.

Critics of 1Care claimed that the scheme was an additional form of tax and that the existing healthcare system was functioning adequately.

They also claim that the scheme was an attempt by the federal government to tax people for healthcare, in order to reduce budget allocations.

Liow has repeatedly stated that the scheme has not been finalised and is merely in the planning stages.
