More than 19,000 registered voters have been moved to different localities and not just Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, said Election Commission (EC) chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof today.

Abdul Aziz told reporters the commission had been working on boundary correction since 2004 using the Electoral Geographical Information System (EGIS), after chairing a briefing for MPs on election-related matters.

“We have not conducted any delineation, that would require Parliament’s consent and two thirds majority,” said Abdul Aziz.

He explained that in Khalid ’s case, when the mentri besar registered to vote in 1985 with a Jalan 16/2, Section 16, Petaling Jaya address, he was erroneously placed under the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency.

However, a recent check using EGIS revealed that the address fell in the Universiti voting zone, which is under the Lembah Pantai constituency.

A similar boundary correction exercise was conducted just before the Hulu Selangor by-election in 2010 resulting in the opposition crying foul over the transfer of 228 voters to the Selayang constituency.

However, the EC has since 2011 put a freeze on the exercise, saying that it has been exploited by political parties.
