The Terengganu government has gazetted four deviationist cults, including the Ayah Pin sect, involved in deviant teachings and practices in the state.

Terengganu Religious and Information Committee chairperson Khazan Che Mat said the three other groups were Darul Arqam founded by Ashaari Muhamad, Azhar Abdul Wahab sect and Rufaqa’ Corporation and its affiliates, which were spreading the banned Aurad Muhammadiah doctrine.

“So far, the State Islamic Religious Department has brought 52 individuals involved in the deviant teachings, including Ayah Pin cult leader Arifin Mohammed, to court.

“The other three deviationist cults are still being investigated,” he said in reply to Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS-Rhu Rendang) who wanted to know the list and action taken against deviationist cults in Terengganu at the state assembly sitting in Kuala Terengganu today.

Khazan said the cults were categorised as deviant by the Terengganu Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs (Maidam) Fatwa Committee based on the fact that their teachings contradict the beliefs and practices of Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
