A Komuter train was derailed in Bangsar at 6.50am today, resulting in delays in service that are expected to be rectified around 4pm.

When contacted, KTM corporate communications executive Shahriza Embi classified the incident as a "minor derailment" as only the front wheel had come off the tracks. The train remained upright, and damage to the track was negligible.

She said none of the 200 passengers on board were injured and that they had been moved to another train to continue the journey. The train has been moved from the location, close to the Bangsar LRT station.

The cause of the derailment is being investigated, while work is underway to rectify the damage to the tracks and to restore services, Shahriza said.

"Services are expected to return to normal at 4pm, or two hours earlier (than we had originally estimated)," she added.

Until then, commuters can expect delays of 30-60 minutes on all services on the Seremban-Rawang and Sentul-Port Klang sectors. Several inter-city services were also disrupted this morning.

KTM has frequently been criticised for delays in its Komuter services due to signal failure or flooding of tracks.

On March 2, two trains crashed in Seremban, resulting in 44 of the 600 passengers being injured, seven of them seriously. This was the first such collision since Komuter services were introduced in August 1995.
