The delay in TMnet updating its routing servers has caused visitors to malaysiakini.com to view a week-old version of the website since Sunday. After numerous complains from malaysiakini readers regarding their inability to access the site through TMnet's Internet service, malaysiakini staff eventually traced the root of the problem this morning.

The technical glitch has not affected Internet users logging in through Jaring and Maxis, whose servers seem to be updated daily.

"In the age of real-time Internet, I am amazed that TMnet takes days to refresh its routing devices," said malaysiakini editor Steven Gan. "The delay has been extremely frustrating to us and our readers who have come to expect us to be first in delivering the news."

After experiencing problems with its host server over the past few weeks, malaysiakini moved to a new webhost in the United States last Saturday. Maxis and Jaring updated their links on Sunday but until today, TMnet continues to direct users to the old webhost. As a result, viewers were receiving last Tuesday's front page, each time they logged into malaysiakini.com.

As a temporary solution to the problem, malaysiakini is now updating both the new and old sites. TMnet technical staff said they are looking into the problem.
