PAS politician Nasharuddin Mat Isa has urged DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to apologise for reportedly saying that DAP is against the hudud law, as this "goes against the Pakatan Rakyat spirit".

pas muktamar 130610 nasharuddin mat isa 1 Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today, the Bachok MP said Lim should also "retract the statement" as the hudud is "compulsory for Muslims, not a choice".

"Lim's statement undermines the Pakatan Rakyat spirit...(The hudud ) is fundamental to the PAS struggle... DAP has known this from Day One," said Nasharuddin, who is also former PAS deputy president.

He added that Pakatan parties PAS, DAP and PKR has succeeded in working together on many issues but hudud is somewhat “sidelined”.

Nasharuddin, who has courted controversy over his vocal criticism of Pakatan parties, said that what he said is also consistent with PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat's stand.

Asked if he expects disciplinary action due to his comments, the former PAS deputy president said that he is merely stating his principles

“I stand by my principles. There is no issue of being sacked. It's a matter of stating my position,” he said.

Utusan Malaysia today reported that Lim had stressed that hudud was not part of the Pakatan policy.

NONE It mirrored his statement last month, Lim said that “DAP’s co-operation with PAS under Pakatan is principled in not just agreeing to disagree on hudud but also that any future Pakatan federal government is not about implementing an Islamic state or hudud .

“Despite these differences, both DAP and PAS have a common stand in fighting corruption and abuse of power as well as establishing integrity in leadership focusing on competency, accountability and transparency,” Lim had said.

Meanwhile, asked about Nasharuddin’s demand, PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said that Pakatan Rakyat has had “heart-to-heart discussions” on all matters in the presidential council.

“So far, things are going well. We take an agree to disagree stance. We are respectful (of each other),” he said.
