Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he would rely on state DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow’s better judgment on Pengkalan Kota state assemblyman Lau Keng Ee’s performance before deciding if Lau should be fielded again as a candidate.

 

Lim said Lau should be working hard to impress Chow, who picked him as a candidate in 2008, if he wants to contest again.

 

“I would only listen to Chow’s recommendation as far as the Tanjung parliamentary constituency is concerned. I don’t know the background of this support rally, but finally it is Chow’s judgment that should matter here.

 

“Chow has been the Tanjung MP for 13 years. He would know the constituency intimately and so would be able to judge the assemblymen’s performance including Lau’s in Pengkalan Kota,” said Lim.

 

He was asked to comment on the lack of support received by Lau during a rally organised two days ago prompting speculations that the latter would be dropped as candidate due to alleged non-performance.

 

However, Lim said the outcome of the support rally where about 30 people attended should not be severely assessed as it was a matter of perception and one that could be "easily misconstrued" by BN.

 

“Therefore, Chow would be able to make a better analysis of this because he is the leader of the Tanjung constituency since 1999 after DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang asked him to contest there.

 

“I rather listen to Chow because I don’t want to see a new practice of influencing events. What is important is service on the ground. Being a government, embarking on development projects is our responsibility,” he added.
