Police are still in the process of recording statements from four suspects who allegedly torched a Road Transport Department (RTD) vehicle in Seri manjung near Kampar on Friday.

Perak police chief Mohd Shukri Dahlan said police were also going through video recordings of the incident to identify witnesses and also other suspects involved.

“We will identify the suspects one by one and call them in for questioning. There are videos of the incidents uploaded on to YouTube by unknown persons. Today’s technology is very helpful in police work,” he told reporters after attending a ‘High Profile Policing’ programme at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Kampar today.

On allegations that the suspects were ‘tontos’ (touts out to thwart JPJ operations), he said this had yet to be ascertained but the four were suspected to be among the culprits.

He also urged witnesses to come forward to assist the police in the investigations.

In the incident, a JPJ four-wheel-drive vehicle was overturned and torched by a mob at Km12 Jalan Sitiawan-Ipoh near a traffic light junction at SM Methodist, Ayer Tawar.

Earlier, there had been massive pile up involving a palm oil tanker,  a lorry laden with sand, two schoolbuses, three sedans, a jeep and a motorcyle which left four people seriosuly injured and 11 others ending up with light injuries.

There has been various versions as to what transpired that led to the torching of the JPJ vehicle and police have reminded the public that no one should take the law into their own hands.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, the leader of the Pok Gang Langkap which is involved in extortion cases in Terenganu surrendered himself to the police at the Kuala Terengganu police headquarters yesterday.

State CID chief ACP K Manoharan said the 32-year-old suspect turned himself in at 11.20am and that police were tracking two other members of the gang known as Lan Minyak Pejal Langkap, both in their 20s.
