PAS vice-president Husam Musa has proposed that opposition members be placed on tender and procurement committees if Pakatan Rakyat forms the federal government.

He said that, by doing so, the government can add another layer of checks and balances to administration.

"It is my personal opinion, as candidate for the Putrajaya constituency, that tender committees should include opposition representatives to make things more transparent," he said today.

Speaking to reporters at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, he also proposed that all cabinet and state executive council members make public declarations of wealth once Pakatan takes over, to ensure that there are no abuses of power.

azlan "Once you are in power, the position you hold can be an instrument to bring about wealth... like getting a soft loan of RM250 million for a cattle breeding project," he said, hinting at the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project run by the family members of former cabinet minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

However, he said, the mechanisms and whether this would extend to members of parliament and state assemblypersons can be discussed further.

Husam, who is part of the Kelantan caretaker government, also stressed that the declarations of wealth should be public and not "kept in the prime minister's drawer" as this could also be abused.

"The PM can manipulate the declaration and use it as blackmail," he claimed.
