A businessman has vowed to expose "the truth" behind the RM250 million National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal and the alleged involvement of former minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, during his campaign as an Independent candidate for the Bukit Bintang parliamentary seat.

NONE Shamsubahrin Ismail, who is facing trial for cheating NFC chairperson Mohamed Salleh Ismail into handing over cheques exceeding RM1.755 million, also expressed his disappointment with Umno leaders for protecting the guilty party at the expense of the rakyat.

"I want the public to know about (the truth of) the NFC affair... I grew up with Umno, but the party screwed me over. Umno protected somebody who is corrupt.

"(A minister's) family has been given RM250 million but they misused it and accused me of misrepresenting them," claimed a somewhat emotional Shamsubahrin at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Shamsubahrin had called for the press conference to announce his candidacy for the Bukit Bintang seat as an Independent. He will be facing candidates from DAP and MCA.

He said he had initially wanted to contest wherever Shahrizat was contesting, but since she was not being fielded by BN, he chose Bukit Bintang because he was familiar with the people, after doing business there for the past 15 years.

'DAP has failed'

NONE He also believed that the incumbent MP Fong Kui Lun ( left ) from DAP has failed to develop the constituency or help its residents, and thus should be given the boot.

"It is time that the DAP is driven out of Bukit Bintang."

While he admits that the greater roadblock to Bukit Bintang development and better facilities often rests with the nature of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), he believe that a true people’s representative would not have given up and would fight it out until the local government delivers.

"When you are wakil rakyat, the rakyat's problems is no longer their problem but your problems,"

He accused the DAP of being only interested in winning seats and changing the government, and not in the plight of the people.

As for MCA's candidate Frankie Gan Joon Zin, Shamsubahrin believes he can also sweep his opponent under the rug from what he knows of the former’s abilities or lack thereof.

NONE Shamsubahrin said he has a campaign strategy and manpower all ready and plans to go down to campaign in all 21 areas in Bukit Bintang, though his campaign will only start one week before voting.

He  has already set up a website ( right ) for his campaign, where his campaign manifesto can be viewed. It also features an email service to receive complaints and feedback from Bukit Bintang electorate.

He, however, conceded that he does not expect to win, but wishes to use the opportunity to share his story on the NFC scandal.
