PENANG BN candidate for Bagan parliamentary seat David Chua could not hold back his emotions and weeps during a press conference while recalling about his past.

David Chua MCA Bagan hopeful He paused for a while and continued his press conference at his Jalan Raja Uda elections centre that was held yesterday to launch his manifesto for Bagan.

Chua ( right ) broke down when speaking about the poor as his family with parents and five siblings lived in a garage at Jalan Cheeseman in Penang until the children grew up to work.

“My father was a musician as he played keyboard and earned very little and my mother was a washer woman and they suffered to raise the children,” he said.

Chua, who is facing a straight fight with chief minister and DAP’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in Bagan , said he will address various problems including welfare of the poor and handicapped with help of the federal government.

He is hopeful that the four seats will fall back to the BN in this election.

'Lim Guan Eng an outsider'

“The DAP which won in the parliament for the last 20 years, never brings any development to the area, there is no federal project in Bagan, there is educational institute and low-cost housing in the constituency.

“I will work with the federal government to resolve a lot of problems and bring basic infrastructure to the area. I will also help to expedite the RM100 million Penang Sentral that will churn the economy in the state,” he said.

NONE He said the DAP did not plan for the future needs of Chinese schools in Bagan and he will propose to the federal government to build a Chinese secondary school Bagan as SMJK (C) Chung Ling could not enroll all the students, as there are five primary schools in the area.

He believes the overwhelming support he receives during the campaign rounds shows that people are unhappy with Lim ( left ) for failing to keep several of his promises in the last elections.

“Lim, during the last elections, promised that the DAP will abolish the Sungai Nyor toll if they will all the four seats, they won seats but are blaming the federal government for not abolishing the toll.

“Another is the Mak Mandin Rumah Hijau longhouse matter, they promised to build low-cost units at the present site, but after (winning) the seats, they relocated the residents of a low-cost flat to the Ampang Jajar ,” he said.

Chua said as an MP, Lim did not do anything in his constituency for the last five years as, as an outsider, he fails to understand local problems.
