The Air Pollutant Index (API) in Muar, Johor, has dropped significantly from a staggering ‘hazardous’ reading of 746 to an ‘unhealthy’ 132 as at 11am today.

However, the Department of Environment (DOE) reported that the situation in Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Terengganu has worsened.

The API at Port Dickson hit 335 at 7am, the only area to record a 'hazardous' level of air quality out of the 52 areas nationwide where monitoring devices have been installed.

haze map 240613 01 However, this number went to down a ‘very unhealthy’ 292 at the 11am reading.

 

Port Klang in Selangor recorded ‘very unhealthy’ reading of 288, a slight improvement from 296 at 7am.

Klang MP Charles Santiago tweeted tonight that the API reading for Port Klang at 10pm was 427.

Meanwhile in the case of Kemaman in Terengganu, the 11am reading showed an increase to 253 from 249 earlier in the morning.

The air quality in six other areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur with monitoring devices has worsened to the 'unhealthy' level, with readings between 128 and 198.

In total, 21 areas, or 40 percent, have recorded an 'unhealthy' reading.

These also include - Larkin Lama in Johor; Kota Baru in Kelantan; Malacca city and Bukit Rambai in Malacca; Nilai and Seremban in Negri Sembilan; Balok Baru, Indera Mahkota and Jerantut in Pahang; Seri Manjung and Tanjung Malim in Perak; Sibu in Sarawak; Paka in Terengganu; and Putrajaya.

Only Sandakan and Tawau of Sabah are free of the trans-boundary air pollution blamed on land-clearing activities in Sumatra.

Department cancels cloud seeding training

Meanwhile, Bernama reports that the Malaysian Meteorological Department cancel its plan to hold flight training for cloud seeding with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), scheduled at 11am today, because of poor visibility.

The department said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur that visibility at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang was less than 500 metres and was dangerous to flight operations.

As a preparatory measure, the department has formed three teams to carry out cloud

seeding operations.

 "The cloud seeding operation will be carried out with the cooperation of the RMAF and the company which has been on a contract basis," the Meteorological Department added.
