The Home Ministry has not gotten back to The Heat newsweekly, a month after meeting the newspaper's editors on its indefinite suspension.
 
In a press release today, The Heat's management said the last meeting with ministry officials was on Dec 23, 2013.
 
"We last wrote to the Home Ministry on Jan 20, to say an indefinite suspension places prolonged stress on the company, especially staff members and their families," said the company.
 
The company also expressed appreciation for the support shown by individuals and groups, while appealing to readers for patience.
 
The Heat , a new newsweekly published by HCK media group, was suspended on Dec 10. The newspaper filed an appeal within two weeks. 
 
Thus far, the Home Ministry has not stated, in detail, reasons for the suspension.
 
This has led to speculation that Putrajaya was not pleased with the publication's frontpage report titled "All eyes on big-spending Najib" on its Nov 23 - 29 edition.
 
Critics have claimed that the suspension showed that the Najib-administration was not committed to ensuring press freedom nor does it want the media to play a watchdog role.
