The Kedah state government’s proposal to build a second airport in Kedah is not economically feasible or justifiable, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the idea of having an international airport in Kulim raised many questions as it was so near to Penang.

“Bear in mind that Penang is the largest recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Malaysia. Kedah does not come close in terms of FDI,” he said when asked to comment on the Kedah state government’s proposal to build an international airport in Kulim, in George Town today.

Lim said Penang also had the international links and connections.

Currently Kedah has two airports namely the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (LTSAH) and the Langkawi International Airport.

On another issue, Lim said the state government gave a RM20,000 contribution to the mother of the late Teoh Cheng Cheng in order to take care of her children.

The Syariah Court yesterday ruled that Teoh, 38, who fell from her apartment and died last Saturday, was not a Muslim convert and allowed the family of the deceased to take her body to perform the funeral rites according to their religious beliefs.
