PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is slated to be appointed as menteri besar of Selangor tomorrow morning.
However, a former party colleague cited three reasons why he is not qualified for the post, among them being his stand on the 'Allah' tussle.
In a blog post, former PKR MP Zulkifli Noordin (left) noted that Azmin had agreed to non-Muslims being allowed to used the term in practicing their respective faiths.
"Azmin's stand was contradictory to the decree of the Selangor sultan as well as the state Islamic Affairs Council (Mais) and the Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).
"The question is, what if there is a confrontation between the Selangor government led by Azmin and the sultan, the state’s Islamic institution and laws?" he asked.
Zulkifli said that at least current menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim's stand on the issue was clear, which was to abide by the sultan's decree.
"That is why until now, the state government has not returned the copies of the bible in the Malay language confiscated by Mais to the Bible Society of Malaysia.
"But will Azmin go against the sultan's decree and state enactments to return the copies and allow the Christians to use the term Allah in Selangor?" he asked.
Citing a press conference on Jan 17, 2013 where Azmin said he agreed with the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council's that Christians could use the term, Zulkifli noted that the PKR leader has not retracted his statement.
Pointing out that the tussle over the term 'Allah' has not subsided, he warned that appointing Azmin could be a dangerous move.
"If we know Azmin's stand in supporting Christians using the term, and we appoint him as menteri besar, is this not inviting trouble?" he asked.
The other two reasons cited by Zulkifli is that Azmin had belittled the sultan and does not have a good relationship with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
