Tenaganita director Irene Fernandez's "false news" trial was today postponed after the court interpreter for Bangladeshi witness Moron Mozumder reported he was on medical leave.

Magistrate Juliana Mohamed fixed June 19 for the next hearing, when cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Ganesan Somasundram is scheduled to continue.

Mozumder, 44, has been in the country to testify in the trial since January.

He recounted several incidents of torture and sexual abuse while at the Kemayan detention camp in Pahang five years ago during his three-week testimony.

He is the second former detainee to testify in the country's longest running trial which ran into its 233rd today.

Fernandez is being charged with "maliciously publishing false news" after she released a memorandum about tortures and deaths in the illegal immigrants detention camps at a press conference in August 1995.

The women rights activist and KeADILan supreme council member faces three years in prison if convicted. She is currently out on bail.
