PARLIAMENT The government does not practice favouritism in taking action against anyone found guilty of committing sedition, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri.

She said the decision to refer charges on any individual was based on the statements and facts of the case and not based on pressure from any group or other factors.

"The government does not take into account the religious or racial background or political inclination of the individual concerned as long as there is an element of sedition in the offence committed," she added.

Nancy told Parliament this when replying to a supplementary question from Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan), in Kuala Lumpur today.

    

Bung had suggested that the government formulate and strengthen the Sedition Act 1948 to combat individuals who had agendas with seditious elements aimed at breaking up solidarity, harmony and threatening national security.
