Police have summoned Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching for her statement after the DAP lawmaker criticised Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

Teo, when contacted, said she has yet to be informed whether she is being investigated under the Sedition Act or any other law.

This is in relation to her speech at a DAP dinner in Pekan Nenas, Johor, where she complained about the progress of police re-investigation into the death of former party political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

"I got a call yesterday from the Pontian district police headquarters. The Special Branch reported (my speech) to them (the local police) and they want to take my statement," she told Malaysiakini .

Teo said she had in her speech criticised various government figures, including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, but the police chief ( right ) appeared to be off limits.

"It seems the inspector-general of police is now untouchable,. We cannot make any comments against him," she said.

During the dinner, Teo said, she had questioned the lack of serious action on the part of the police, even though the Court of Appeal overturned the coroner's court decision that Teoh was driven to suicide.

Court found MACC culpable for Teoh's death

The Court of Appeal also found the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to be culpable for Teoh's death.

"I also touched on the inspector-general's criticism of the Teoh family for saying that they were unhappy with everything.

"Of course we are unhappy. Every reasonable Malaysians would be unhappy," Teo said.

She said she was not able to give her statement to police when she was first informed yesterday as she was in Batu Pahat with her father, who has been hospitalised.

"I have said that if they want my statement, they can do it in Parliament as the sitting continues today," she said.

Teoh ( left ) was called in by the MACC on July 15, 2009, as a witness in a corruption case. He was questioned on the 14th floor of the Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam, but was found dead on the fifth floor of the building the next morning.

MACC at the time disclaimed responsibility for Teoh's death and three months later, a suicide note, allegedly written by Teoh, emerged.

This only added to the mystery as Teoh was to register his marriage to Soh Cher Wei the day after his untimely death and they already had their honeymoon and wedding reception planned.

The coroner's court in 2011 ruled that Teoh was driven to suicide by intensive questioning, but this was overturned by the Court of Appeal on Sept 5, 2014, which ruled out suicide and said MACC was liable for Teoh's death.

A royal commission of inquiry into Teoh's death labelled the three MACC officers who questioned Teoh – Hishammuddin Hashim, Arman Alies and Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus – as "an arrogant leader, a bully and an abuser".

None of the trio has faced any action to date.
