PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat urges Muslim football spectators to perform ritual prayers (solat) in their stadium seats to cool down during tense matches.

This can avoid incidences of violence and hooligan behaviour like during the AFF Suzuki Cup semi finals where Vietnamese supporters were assaulted by Malaysian fans, he said.

"PAS Youth is prepared to assist organisers in encouraging spectators to perform prayers during a match.

"To solat is easy. Solat is simple, you can even do it while in your seats and while wearing a football jersey. Solat is the best!" Suhaizan (right) said in a Facebook posting.

Performing the solat can help spectators keep cool heads, he said, and they can use half a bottle of mineral water for ablution.

His suggestion comes after Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that police will not compromise on those who assaulted the Vietnamese fans.

The minister also proposes organisers ensure opposing fans are not sat too close to each other.

Police today also released photo kits of suspects involved in the assault.

"I was once the president of a football association and we were separated by fencing and made to sit on separate sides.

"This must be a standard operating procedure (SOP)," Zahid said at a press conference at his ministry today.

He added that police presence should also be compulsory for crowd control.
