A teenager who ran away from his home in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur two days ago, has been found, said his mother Yong Siew Chen.

 

She said 13-year old son Wong Wai Chen had been staying with a friend whom he knew from primary school, since he went missing on Dec 5.

 

Wong (right) told his friend that his mother and godmother had gone outstation, and he was left alone at home, Yong told Malaysiakini today .

 

“When the friend saw the pictures on our missing person’s posters, he contacted us just after our press conference… Then he brought him (back to us),” the single mother said.

 

This morning, Yong called a press conference with Taman Desa Resident’s Association committee member Yap Biow Hwee and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s aide Peter Seen, where she appealed for Wong to return and the public to help to find him.

 

“Your mother is concerned about you. Whatever that has happened before will be forgiven.” she said through Yap, who served as her interpreter.

 

However, relief came at 2pm today when she received a call from Wong’s friend who also lives in Taman Desa.

 

At the press conference, the 31-year-old said that she had often scolded the boy for not staying at home.

 

Speaking through Seen in Mandarin and Cantonese, Yong said a police report was lodged at the Brickfields police station on Dec 6, after a day of searching.

 

Prior to being found, Wong was last seen cycling away from home on Friday morning, wearing a T-shirt and short pants. He was believed to have been carrying only RM11, while his identity card and mobile phone were left at home.

 

Describing her son as being "hyperactive", Yong said the boy frequently visits a nearby cybercafe to play video games.

 

He also loves to play outdoor sports, such as football.

 

She added that on top of bad grades, Wong is a victim of bullying in school due to his poor social skills.
