Some 20 people including Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers shaved their heads in a symbolic protest in solidarity with incarcerated opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim outside the Parliament gates this morning.

Hours later, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tabled a special motion.

The Dewan Rakyat then adopted a resolution to bar activities such as " shaving heads " in front of the Parliament gates.

The motion was passed by a majority voice vote after it was read briefly for just over a minute.

"The roads and lanes leading to Parliament must always be open and accessible and there should not be any obstructions for members to come and go from the House," said Zahid.

The home minister also said there should not be any "trouble" along the roads leading to the building.

"I also want to add that there should not be any activities like people shaving their heads on roads leading into the Parliament building," he said.

Zahid said the passed motion would need to be handed to the inspector-general of police by the Dewan Rakyat secretary.

The motion might also affect future protests outside the Parliament gates.
