PARLIAMENT A DAP lawmaker's move to question the possibility of public funds used in the wedding of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's daughter was shot down by Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee, who ruled the questions went beyond the scope of the House.

Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Melaka) asked how many government agencies would be used to help make Najib's daughter's wedding a "success", but Kiandee quickly stopped Sim from probing the issue further.

"This issue is beyond his (Najib’s) capacity as an MP and prime minister. Please only ask questions pertaining to his position as MP and PM," Kiandee told Sim ( left ).

Sim argued he was asking a valid question as to whether public funds were going to be used for the wedding, but Kiandee used his powers under Standing Order 36(9) and stopped further questions from Sim.

This was followed by a chorus of BN MPs asking Sim to stop raising the matter and saying that Najib's daughter's wedding "is his own wish" and something of a personal capacity.

Sim was eventually unable to finish raising his concerns.

"What I wanted to ask is whether government agencies will be used for the wedding," Sim said while trying to explain his question.
